Rules...
We have few rules, but
the few we have we stand by strongly.
1.
You must be 18 years
or older
2.
We do not accept
beginners. We cater mainly to intermediate players.
3.
No profanity,
arguing, lewd, or violent behavior. If there is ever a disagreement
in play, the point is to be played over.
4.
The second hit is
always the setters call. If the setter does not ask for help, you must make way for the
setter. If a teammate does not believe that he can move out of the way
in time, he should call off the setter early and loudly.
5.
You may cross the
centerline, provided you do not interfere with the opponent’s play.
6.
The use of feet is
now acceptable.
7.
A “let” serve is a valid
serve, except in the case of doubles, in which case it is a sideout.
8.
Play stops
immediately if "ball on" is called. "Ball on"
should be called if it is believed any object may come on to the court.
9.
The score must be called
prior to the serve or the ball is to be caught and reserved.
10.
Individuals are to
call their own mishandles, nets or fouls, but should consider opinions of
the other players. If a serve is received with two open hands, and
the ball does not go "forward", it is a
mishandle.
11.
Members play at
their own risk, and everyone should work together to ensure safety is of
the utmost concern.
12.
All players must
help set up nets.
13.
Everyone
plays. If all nets are full, players are to set up another net. If
all nets are set up, rotate in at the server's position.
14.
Teams are to rotate sides every 5 points if
50% or more request it.
15.
Once a ball is thrown
up to be served, the server must hit the ball over the net or it is a sideout. You cannot catch ball and reserve.
16.
If possible, 2 nets should be set up before play
begins. The first net may stay at 4 people provided there are at
least 6 players for the second net.
17.
Everyone plays. However, if one team has 10 or
more points, you must wait until the game is over to join the net.
With the noted exceptions above, we generally
follow rules set forth by usavolleyball.org
outdoor rules, noting particularly the following frequently discussed
issues:
15.2.1 Players
may cross the center line provided it does not interfere with the opponent’s
play.
15.3.1 It is a
fault for a player or player's clothes to come in contact with the net.
15.1.2 You may
attack the ball and extend your hands beyond the net provided your first
contact is made on your side of the net.
15.1.1 While BLOCKING, you may touch the ball
beyond the net, provided you do so AFTER the opponents contact the ball.
16.7 At the opponent’s request, the server's
teammates must move in order that the opponents are not screened out of
seeing the serve.
